History should be our guide in such troubled times. No country has ever seen a successful “Theocracy”. It is not possible and should not be attempted. Religion is a highly personal and intimate part of a individuals beliefs, and as such is a “breeding ground for Extremism”. Such extreme behavior is often irrational and bias, which is non-conducive to growth and prosperity. The American people are angry about the state of our country. I agree and understand this frustration, it is obvious things need to change and soon. Beginning with President Reagan religious leaders were allowed a “Federal Platform to speak from”. This should not have been allowed. When President Clinton Took office, the GOP started a non-stop attack on the American people and the Clinton’s who were the only Presidential family who “represented the American people” in the last 30 or so years were their main target. Now what is disgusting to me, is that most everyone agrees that former President Bush, was a failure, he is unintelligent and put us in a very difficult place in history. Yet where was the attacks on him? Who shouted “impeachment and actually got hearings?” Well history doesn’t lie, no one did. Now the GOP are at it again this time it will be the “American people and the Obama presidency as targets”.

If we do nothing or say nothing to these “Anti-freedom, Theologists” who wish to “Strip us of our choices, and limit our freedom”, then I say “SHAME ON US!!” Rush Limbaugh and his like, are spreading propaganda that is being disseminated through churches (the biggest lobbying organization in the world) that is for the sole purpose of taking “YOUR RIGHTS AWAY FROM YOU”, AND YET WE DO NOTHING? That in itself is Un-American!! GOP will encourage racial crimes, and crimes against Homosexuality. And we do nothing in essence we are sending a message to future generations “We have no opinion and do not care about your future”. We are so consumed by the “Here and now” syndrome, that anything obvious like “Letting things go until its too late, and there is a Civil War”, is not worth worrying about yet. I see this trend with many parents, who do not wish to “fight with their children over time spent on the Internet”, only to find out later they have gotten themselves into all kinds of destructive behaviors behind their backs. To lazy to take any initiative to be “PROACTIVE, ABOUT THEIR CHILD’S FUTURE”. So what is the difference with current events? The world is begining to see us as a “unstable and dangerous political environment”, yes they see what we refuse to allow ourselves to see. The GOP leadership of our great country wants to control our lives by means of “Religion” a literal “Control” of what is taught in school, what is socially acceptable, and many other aspects of our daily lives. AND YET WE DO NOTHING? Is anything about “Control” make you feel “Free?” or are you going to sit back and let things be, until they are out of control and its too late? They make up about one third of the population of the United States of America, if the rest of America stands and says “I will not tolerate this any longer”, then they will have no choice in the matter. If we do not start a movement, strong enough to “tell the Govt, and the people” of our great nation that we will not stand for our country to be attacked from within, then we will have no country in the future to be proud of. We will have a “Mirror image of what has occurred in the Middle East”, fighting for hundreds of years over how “Religion and Govt are supposed to work together?” That is insanity.

Our founding fathers knew this to be true, they warned us that for true freedom a “Separation of Church and State must exist” this is part of the foundation that makes our nation free, and strong. And it can be taken away from us by “Religious Extremists”. The very Terrorists we now fight, in this war on terror, are radical religious extremist’s who want Religion to control their govt. The GOP is simply a Terrorist wearing a different costume. This is undeniable because it is the truth. There is no mystery of conflict of the “Truth”, it is what it is and by such we need to put GOP in its place, and get our country back on the path to longevity, and Freedom before its too late.

I have often been quoted as saying “sometimes doing the Right thing is the hardest thing to do”, to our children. I am always putting them into a position where during a important conversation I “make them see the answers” by not giving them the solutions. Our Children are aged from 15 to 22 so we are not dealing with “young” kids here. A example of this would be a conversation with my youngest son concerning one of his “previous girlfriends”, he stated that he had become interested in a different girl. So I listened and he went on to say that he was going to ask her out and then of coarse he justified it by saying “I am tired of the old one because all we do is argue”. I said to him “have you broken up with the old girlfriend yet?” His answer: No. He went on to explain he didn’t want to break up with her until he “checked out how the new girl would be”. I then said “how is she going to feel when she finds out you went out with another girl?” Well to make a long story short, He said “your right I should break up with her before I go out with the other one”. Of coarse I told him that was a “wise decision” and that “in this family we treat people the way we expect to be treated”. And I left it at that, feeling proud for him. The reality of that example is simple, had we not discussed it at all he would have continued with his “Plan” that was not thought through, and would have either learned the hard way, or despite knowing it was wrong he would repeat his mistake because it was “the route he is used to taking”.

Recently however a very interesting series of conversations with our Eldest son really made me think about current events, and Civil Rights as a whole. To give you a background my ex-wife lives in a different state, almost three thousand miles from where I now reside in North Carolina. But I continue close communication with my oldest son who is 18 years of age now. My ex-wife didn’t date for almost ten years after our divorce, and then “found Jesus”, she had not only gotten very involved in Christianity she is leaning on “Extremism”. So during our election which was the first one he could vote in, she was putting alot pressure on him by discussing why she wanted McCain to win. Like most Right wing Conservatives “his JOB performance and creditability” were not her main concerns. Even after McCain picked his running mate, and it turned out she was not equipped at all for the position, his mother did not waiver. So we talked about why I thought the wiser choice in all regards would be Obama! At first he thought I was trying to convince him out of “principle” until I made it clear that “this was his choice”. He is a young adult, who legally can make this choice for himself. This seemed to give him a sense of “empowerment” and our conversations got more into the “FACTS” of McCain’s past, and present. He had some more conversations with his mother, and brought up “his valid views on the subject” which got her attention a bit. But she bounced back with the “Abortion” issue, and all of the other Conservative Rhetoric that the Right wing offers up. My Son felt “trapped” in a way. He didn’t want to disappoint anyone, but he surely would, I assured him this choice is about “how he thinks about the facts surrounding it” and again told him “Its HIS choice”, and I wouldn’t be angry at him no matter how he decided it. Some time went by (about a week) and he proclaimed he might not Vote. I told him, that with our country in its current state, doing nothing is not acceptable. He needs to make a choice and stick with it. This is not the time to “give up” it is the time to let your voice be heard!! Well the day before the election he proclaimed “that he figured out who he is Voting for” and that he just wont discuss it with anyone later. The conversation went on to discuss how “perhaps we don’t agree with the social issue’s, or the issue of Abortion” But when we look at what is “Right and Wrong” we must go with “What is Right for the Country” because its not about us, as individuals. I was proud and honored to find out he had Voted for Barrack Obama, despite many of his friends, and family were pushing all of the negativity about him. It boiled down to “simple right and wrong in the end”.

As a nation when we Vote on something that affects a great number of people, we can not allow ourselves to be “emotionally driven” in our decisions. We must always look at the “facts” and see through what we know to be the “fiction” that always gets written and said. If “We the PEOPLE of the UNITED States of America” do not put Country first in pivotable decisions then we would “stagnate and cease to change” which would ultimately lead us to our end. In the days of Slavery, people knew what they were doing was wrong in regards to Civil Rights, yet out of pure “Greed” and “Selfishness” they lived a life of “Ignorance”. Almost a million people lost their lives because of that “Stubborn Ignorance”.

Personally I do not like “Abortion” and I do think its something no person likes. I think its a simple problem however. Any Woman who considers Abortion has a reason, personal to her, that would drive her to do so. Perhaps “Her Reason is something debatable” but the choice is hers to make. It is her body and her choice. We have laws that limit when a Abortion can be done, so the “Limits are in place” to give legal guidelines to it. The responsible thing for me to do as a “individual” is to make sure a woman’s right to “choice” is available to her. I may not like it, but its the “Right thing to do”, because if we do not allow the “Choice” we surely will have more and more choices taken from us in the future. This is America! Not Russia, or China where choice is not a word people use much. Religious people use the words “your killing a person”, or “God will punish you”. Well lets look at reality for a second, until the “Fetus” can live outside the “womb” on its own its essentially not “a complete person” it more resembles “A work in progress”. That is why late and mid term Abortions are illegal. And on the subject of “God” it is up to the woman making the choice, and HER relationship with God. The Right thing to do, is leave the individual “in charge of her destiny” and the “choice to make decisions that affect her life”.

On the subject of Gay Rights. Its another simple issue yet again. Homosexuality has existed since people have existed. They feel more comfortable for individual reasons, being with the same gender as themselves. When two people with equal “Sexual and Emotional needs” are in a relationship they want to be Married to “legally and socially bind them in Matrimony”. That is true with all people. Even people who don’t believe in “Marriage” want a ceremony of some sort to “mark the day, and celebrate the moment”. The legal aspects of this are important as well, for the purpose of adoption, and health benefits, even as simple as visiting your “Partner” in a Hospital during “there time of need” depends upon “Marriage”. So who are we, to deny these “PEOPLE” who “WISH TO HONOR AND LOVE EACH OTHER, TILL DEATH DO THEY PART”? Its a basic “Civil Right” and its about “Equality” as well. No matter how we feel about Gay people we must do what is right for them, and support their right “To choose who they want to be Married to despite Gender”. Its a matter of Responsibility and Respect. So long as a Gay person is not “Sexually Harassing anyone” where is the issue at all? Christian People argue that they do not want their children being taught about “Homosexuality in School”, well I have got news for them, “WE LIVE IN A DIVERSE NATION WHERE ALL PEOPLE HAVE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY DESPITE THEIR MONETARY OR SOCIAL OR SEXUAL STATUS!!” That is what this country was founded on. We often should be seeing the reality that we “HAVE NO CHOICE IN THE MATTER AT ALL” Because it was a “Matter of doing the Right thing, despite how we feel about it”. And there should be “no mystery or conflict when we look at reality” its just fact at that point.

While surfing around some blogs, and various reports I am finding a lot of discussion on the subject of “Discrimination against Christians” and I am dumbfounded that the Christians in this nation would even mutter the word “Discrimination”. I found the following article very relevant to how I feel about the subject:

In the April/May 2005 issue of Free Inquiry, Tom Flynn writes in his article “Discrimination Against Christians? Oh Please…”:

Majority Christians accurately foresee that their present-day privileges may one day go the way of teacher-led Bible reading. Just as Southern whites did after the Civil War, majority Christians are reacting in ways that are, well, reactionary. …

Attacks on teaching evolution and efforts to reinstate school prayer increasingly portray majority Christians as victims. And, of course, there was last year’s eagerness to turn back the clock on “Happy Holidays.” Taken together, these initiatives could move the country back toward de facto discrimination against both the nonreligious and all those who are religious but not Christian.

Clearly, majority Christians are getting a lot of mileage out their claims of discrimination. So it’s time to ask some blunt questions. Are majority Christians being discriminated against? No. Are they being treated unfairly? No. Is anyone trying to take their rights away from them? No. But are majority Christians the targets of a reform movement that seeks to take privileges away from them? Emphatically, yes. Many of those privileges are illicit, and their removal will help to bring about a more just and equitable society.

Like Southern whites in the Jim Crow years, today’s Christian Americans have been made to give up only some of the illicit privileges they accumulated in the past. The unfairness of the privileges they retain grows more odious with time as the nation becomes more religiously diverse. “Judeo-Christian” practices that seemed acceptable when Christians and Jews dominated debates over religion in public life are transparently unacceptable today, when Christians and Jews share the nation with atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, neopagans, and so on.

Notice the use of the phrase “Religious Privilege” and use of the word “Privilege” drives home the reality that “Christians” have gained “a great deal of Benefits” both legally and socially that they really never were entitled to in the first place. They have been at this so long that they feel “They deserve these Benefits” and to experience a loss of “Influence” in our society make them feel that “Their Vital Rights are being infringed upon”. If we were dealing with actual Civil rights, like the right to speech, then claims about “Discrimination and persecution would be justified.” The Reality of the situation is that Christians are losing privileges — they are losing the ways in which they have been treated better than everyone else. Because of this, they are “not actually being discriminated against” — “But the discrimination against others is ending.” It’s not unlike how the elimination of “white privilege” was “perceived by whites during the Civil Rights era.”

He goes on to quote Lindsay a attorney and founding member of the Council for Secular Humanism’s First Amendment Task Force, what’s really happening when conservative Christians complain about discrimination:

What is going on here is whining: whining by individuals and groups who have been deprived of the truly privileged position they once enjoyed. For most of this country’s history theism, in particular Christianity, has enjoyed favor. . . . The courts have put an end to some, but certainly not all, of this collaboration between church and state. In doing so, the courts have upset many who assumed that this was the proper way of doing things . . . and who did not see anything coercive, let alone unconstitutional, about such practices. Not unnaturally, they have interpreted the courts’ action as an attack on religion, when in reality they were simply an attempt to put an end to the privileged position that religion enjoyed.

Religion still continues to enjoy a “Privileged role in Society”. What is ending in society as a whole is “Sympathy towards Christianity as a whole”. And Christians are being forced to accept the reality that they “Share the same level of respect of other Religions”. They do not deserve or command any special place in the “Religious communities of the world”. Yet they seemingly cannot accept that reality and complain their “Rights are being taken away”.

Just imagine for a second, that Adolf Hitler wrote a letter to President Roosevelt “Complaining that he didn’t understand why his nation was being Discriminated against” and “We just don’t understand the Third Reich”. It would appear to me that although it may sound a bit “extreme to use Hitler as a example” it may not be at all. What were the Crusades? How many millions have perished in the “Religious Holocaust” that history has seen?

What is really happening here, is the refusal of “Christianity to accept they are losing political and social influence”. Their literal level of “Control and Manipulation” is being infringed upon, and they see it as “Civil Rights Violations”. Christians believe this nation was founded on Christianity, and that Christianity is our “Primary Religion” despite even the founding fathers Stating otherwise. A “complete” separation of Religion and State to undo the “Neo-Conservative movement” that was put in our political system under the Reagan Administration, is absolutely “Imperative” to the further success of our great nation.

I found this “Statement of Sorts” a analogy of “How Religion works and doesnt work. I found it very intresting and decided to Post it for everyone.

Begin//My analogy is this. If I’m having a problem in my life and I feel the need to see a shrink I want to find someone who’ll give me the tools I need to solve the problem on my own. I also want him/her to make sure that I know how to use these tools in similar (or not so similar) situations in the future. The goal of our sessions should be that the day would come in the not too distant future when I won’t need him/her any more. Let’s face it; we’re human and sometimes we need the help of others to see our way out of a problem or a tough situation. I don’t think theres anything wrong with that. But we should be capable of getting to the point where we don’t need professional help to solve our problems. The day may come where you need to see a shrink again and hopefully things will go smoothly once again and you’ll be able to be self-sufficient once again.

Also, to continue with a similar analogy, suppose you are ill and you require medication to get better. You understand that if you take a prescribed medicine for a prescribed period of time, you’ll eventually get better and you won’t need to take the medicine any more. When you get sick again you’ll repeat this process.

If you have a disease (be it physical or mental) you may need to take medicine or see a shrink on a regular basis to function properly, for the rest of your life.

Religion is like this, even the ‘good’ ones. It really is like a disease, not an incurable one more like drug or alcohol addiction. Religion has more in common with bad therapy than it does with good therapy. People make jokes about psychologists/psychiatrists/chiropractors and how some of them (the bad ones) make a living by suckering people into thinking that they have major problems that need serious help indefinitely. Sound familiar? I’ve heard people say things like, “If I didn’t have church to go to each week, my life would fall apart” or “I don’t know how I’d make it through the week without my faith,” or even “I don’t know how I could be a good person if it wasn’t for my faith.” I hear similar comments from some people referring to caffeine, cigarettes, and beer.

If this doesn’t sound like a disease, then I don’t know what does.

Certainly people also go to their church, mosque, temple, or whatever for more than group therapy. They go to ingratiate themselves to a hypothetical supernatural being. But the act of worship is so intertwined into the group therapy thing that “ne’er the two shall part.” This psychotic symbiosis is the key that keeps the whole process going in its sadistic little circle.

Some people might say that I sound mad, bitter, or even a bit angry.

You’re damn right I’m angry. Religion is a disease of the mind that preys on young and old, strong and weak. The only way to successfully combat it is through critical thinking, which is seriously lacking in today’s world. Our young are the most susceptible to its wiles. What makes me mad is that these people who are suffering from this awful disease would love nothing better than to pass this disease on to our children.

You’re damn right I’m angry. Imagine how you’d feel about a drug pusher hanging out at your kid’s school passing out free doses of PCP. Or how you’d feel about some kid trying to get you child to shoot up or to smoke dope in the bathroom at school or to drink liquor at a school dance. You should feel the same emotions towards those who’d seek to poison the minds of your children, that you’d feel towards those who’d seek to poison the bodies of your children.

The only difference I see is one of these two is acceptable in today’s society and the other isn’t. I long for a day when neither one is acceptable to anyone.

Alcohol, drug, and smoking addictions can all be cured. So can religious addiction. I’m a testament to that fact. I think that those of us who are free from the tentacles of religious belief have a moral obligation to expose religion as the disease that it is. I’d much rather fight an offensive battle than a defensive one. Let’s actively seek to find a way to go after this “dragon” and “slay him.” Let’s find its weak spot (the fact that it’s a disease of the mind might be it) and then let’s find the right sword (I may need some help here, maybe a best selling book dealing with this aspect of religion by Pinker, Dawkins, and Shermer would be a good start) and then let’s kill this beast once and for all. What do you say?\\ End.

I would like to also say that I believe Strongly that “Early Man needed Religion to Organize and Develope” it was a way of bringing people together for a “Common Cause” but as we have progressed and Kings and Leaders do not use Religious influence to “Command their People” (Like saying to their people “God has told me to Build a defense system to ward off attack!!, No quite simply the leader knew there was a need for it, but to convince his people it had to come from a “higher authority for them to agree”.) We Live in a modern era of Science and Fact that leaves little room for “guidance from a outside force” to lead us into the future. Yet people who “feel something missing” or in simple terms “Lack self confidence or self guidance” find Religion as a way to justify their lives. In addition to that the “Process of Recruitment at early age” combined with the “Horrors of the bible” these children of Religion feel trapped in something they Fear. Why would any reasonable person fear their creator in the first place? The list of Hypocracy in the Bible is too long to list here in this simple blog, and we all know the traditional ones that come to mind anyway. I found it very intresting while watching the film “Religulous” that thousands of years before our bible we practiced many religions with simular themes as our current one. That one fact alone should inspire people to look at the obvious falts in a “very old belief system, that is now outdated and mishandled” and that has caused the deaths of billions of people throughout history in the name of “peace and love”. I say its time for the world to begin to integrate the thought “that we alone are the masters of our destiny” by making “good choices for ourselves” we have “Good results for society as a whole”.

On April 12, 1861 The confederate army attacked a military installation at Ft. Sumpter in South Carolina. That action started what we now regard as “The Civil War”. Families were torn apart by some members siding with ”The Union” and others Siding with “The Confederacy”. Brother killing Brother and Fathers killing son’s. By the time the confederate resistance collapsed over 620,000 soldiers had perished, and a undetermined number of civilians as well. The Confederacy consisted of 11 states who wished to declare their “secession” from the “free states.” The Free states did not believe in slavery and believed that black people deserved civil rights and freedoms like any other person. The Confederacy had very deep roots in Christianity and believed Black people were sub-human. They believed that Black people were like Indians and referred to them as heathens, therefore giving them no human rights whatsoever. They believed if a Black person, or Indian was “Bought” then he was surely “Owned” and as such they could treat them the way they wished to. The Churches justified this by the label of “heathen” and enabled slave owners to beat torture and rape the slaves they owned, without any punishment what so ever. On April 9, 1865 the war ended and Slavery had become illegal in America. The Churches combined with the Veterans of the confederacy that did not adjust well formed the K.K.K. in the later part of 1865 and continue to this day. Church driven by men with a religious agenda kept women from voting until ”The Nineteenth Amendment was signed” and finally ratified on August 18, 1920. Black people “could” have begun voting when ”The Fifteenth Amendment” was finally ratified on February 3, 1870 however black people did not start voting until 1963. Church driven GOP members who occupied many seats in the Senate, as well as Judges, and law enforcement kept segregation going until the Civil Rights Act ended it unofficially in 1964. But with Conservative leaders still not happy things did not change quickly. By 1968 all forms of segregation had been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court and by 1970, support for formal legal segregation had dissolved. Formal racial discrimination was illegal in school systems, businesses, the American military, other civil services and the government. Separate bathrooms, water fountains and schools all disappeared and the civil rights movement had the public support. Conservative Americans had effectively kept African Americans from actually having rights for nearly “One hundred and five Years!”.

Today we have elected the first “African-American with dark skin into office” and the KKK (yes the same since 1865) is now recruiting and plotting against America again. The same Conservative groups that kept slavery going, killed nearly “Three quarters of a Million People” in a Civil war, and Kept Women from having basic rights such as Voting, are “At it again”. How? They never went away. They are funded and perpetuated by Christianity here in America. They are all Conservative GOP people who are in the highest of positions of authority. They come from wealth, and they have alot of power. We are dividing right now at a alarming rate. Americans are tired of this Neo-Conservative movement that became very powerful during the Reagan Administration. And continued until this day. The hot topics today are Racial Equality, and Civil Rights for Homosexuals. The Gay people are trying to have the basic human right of “Marriage”.

Marriage is a social, religious, spiritual, or legal union of individuals. This union may also be called matrimony, while the ceremony that marks its beginning is usually called a wedding and the married status created is sometimes called wedlock.

Marriage is an institution in which interpersonal relationships (usually intimate and sexual) are acknowledged by the state or by religious authority. It is often viewed as a contract. Civil marriage is the legal concept of marriage as a governmental institution, in accordance with marriage laws of the jurisdiction. If recognized by the state, by the religion(s) to which the parties belong or by society in general, the act of marriage changes the personal and social statusof the individuals who enter into it. In its most true form it means “Two persons who Love each other and are committed to one another in Matrimony” This union would allow Gay people the right to include their partner on “Anything that legally married couples are entitled today”, including Health benefits, Death benefits. Conservative America is shouting “Morals” and saying that America will be punished by GOD if we allow it. Conservative is Religious, and such it is yet again the religious “right” inciting hate and fear in American politics. However now we have a President Elect who in a short time will be taking office, who happens to be African American. We have a Economic disaster happening right now, the worst since the “Great Depression”. The GOP or Conservative America is already pushing Hate for the new president. President Obama will have more on his shoulders than “Any President in History.” Threats against the new President are out of control. Churches are pushing hate at a alarming rate. And all of these circumstances are resembling more of what the conditions were like in 1861. People are divided. The majority of which are for Civil Rights, and Human Rights. Just like in 1861 the “Confederacy were so ignorant” it wasn’t a matter of knowing they were wrong about how they treated African-Americans they just didn’t want to stop. So nearly one million people died out of “Stubborn Ignorance”. Now we have them doing it again but this time “Its not only Race, its about Sexuality.” When we watch Television we hear some Conservative say how “its about Morals” We also have an Alarming number of Conservatives pushing hate because of the subject of “Abortion”. Yet again spouting the word “Morals”, and its against “Gods will”.

We must stop this Ignorant movement in its tracks if we are to continue growing, and essentially if we do not stop this soon there may not be a Country to fight for in the first place!! President Bush has sold us out to China for Trillions of dollars. American industry is nearly non-existent and we cannot suffer a “Civil War on top of a War on Terror”, and at the same time we are struggling to get the Economic conditions on track. Make no mistake the Conservative Movement led by Neo-conservative extremists believe this is their time to take control. And if you watch current events they are working towards that goal right now. WE Have to STOP them!! We have no choice in the Matter. We need to demonstrate on any Church who knowingly spreads Hate and fear. We need to investigate any Church of any faith who would fund American Terrorists like KKK neo-nazi’s etc. We have already taken on more than we intended to, now we have President Elect Obama and a Civil Rights movement with a crippled economy and a VERY ANGRY RELIGIOUS AND CONSERVATIVE group who will stop at nothing to stop it. Including letting this Country fail completely. So Think about the past, present and consider that “WE HAVE A CHOICE THIS TIME IN THE FUTURE”, we need to make WISE DECISIONS to move forward and experience the true change that we need so “DESPERATELY!!”

So ask yourself “what can we do in a non-violant way to stop the people who seek to destroy our momentum?” I my friends do not have all of the answers but I know this one fact to be true. “True freedom will never occur if we have a Integration of Religion and State” that one aspect of our Political system must end, Or this is “The begining of the End of our great Nation”. The Real Question is how far are we willing to go to Stop this, and pass laws to limit it from happening again in the future?

I would like this Blog to concentrate on “Monitoring and Discussing” Civil issue’s that impact our Nation. Emphasis on “Keeping Religious organizations responsible”. Lets all try and hold churches and the religious communities accountable if they choose to: Spread Hate, or limit Civil rights in general. I highly encourage posts on the subject of Politics, and a Seperation of Church and State.
