The divine irony…………

While reading the news recently I came across this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/13/education/13texas.html

This is another sign that things are heading in a dangerous direction. If they get their wish and actually put this in practice, it will mark another blow to our democratic existence. If it spreads, and the conservatives actually get this in other states, than this disease will spread ever so quickly unto our young populations lives.

How ironic, that the Christian Conservatives wish to rewrite history, yet again. And it made me think of the history of the King James version of the bible, and how it became the most printed book in the history of mankind.

This article sums up a brief history of King James, and the bible. http://www.greatsite.com/timeline-english-bible-history/king-james.html

How ironic that a bi-sexual king, whom thought that “”Monarchy is the greatest thing on earth. Kings are rightly called gods since just like God they have power of life and death over all their subjects in all things. They are accountable to God only … so it is a crime for anyone to argue about what a king can do.

This “Man” Actually gave modern day christians, their bible. Even stranger yet, is how easily people forget how the people came to america for religious freedom because they were practicing a “new form of Christianity” that was not accepted in europe (its kinda how Christians feel about Mormons, and Jehovah Witnesses). Catholic leadership wanted nothing to do with this new religion, and banned it from being practiced.

This history has been told in school books for decades, perhaps if they wish to bring more reality to the teaching of american history they should admit their religion is not very old, and was not accepted until much later in time. I also think removing Thomas Jefferson, is a very foolish act as well. All because he coined the phrase “a separation of religion and state”. Also if you look at factual history, many of our founding fathers were not religious at all, in fact if you read the Constitution of the United States, you will read that all people are created equal, irregardless of race. This means that there is no “dominant religion” in America. Furthermore our political system is not designed whatsoever to be integrated with religion, more or less Christianity.

Perhaps including the history of how Christians raped and stole the American Indians land and way of life would be appropriate? Or keeping women from voting for so long? Or hanging African-Americans and burning crosses in their front yards?  Heck why not mention that the KKK, and the neo-nazi parties are christian based groups. While we are at it, lets mention in history books how Christians saying they “want to save the innocent” bombed abortion clinics? How is killing a lot of people saving lives?

Lets teach our children that hypocrisy is “The divine irony” that drives the Christian way of life, that people who say they are worshiping god, and jesus can do horrendous things to others and sleep at night “thinking why not, i will be saved”.

But honestly, “The divine irony” in all of this is that “we have the information available to us” to learn history, its just some are to ignorant to accept it as it is, fact. Facts as you wish them to be, and modified to suit your agenda are fiction. And we should not be teaching our children a version of history that is not accurate, other wise it should be a class called “fiction 101″.
