History could repeat itself if we are not careful.
On April 12, 1861 The confederate army attacked a military installation at Ft. Sumpter in South Carolina. That action started what we now regard as “The Civil War”. Families were torn apart by some members siding with ”The Union” and others Siding with “The Confederacy”. Brother killing Brother and Fathers killing son’s. By the time the confederate resistance collapsed over 620,000 soldiers had perished, and a undetermined number of civilians as well. The Confederacy consisted of 11 states who wished to declare their “secession” from the “free states.” The Free states did not believe in slavery and believed that black people deserved civil rights and freedoms like any other person. The Confederacy had very deep roots in Christianity and believed Black people were sub-human. They believed that Black people were like Indians and referred to them as heathens, therefore giving them no human rights whatsoever. They believed if a Black person, or Indian was “Bought” then he was surely “Owned” and as such they could treat them the way they wished to. The Churches justified this by the label of “heathen” and enabled slave owners to beat torture and rape the slaves they owned, without any punishment what so ever. On April 9, 1865 the war ended and Slavery had become illegal in America. The Churches combined with the Veterans of the confederacy that did not adjust well formed the K.K.K. in the later part of 1865 and continue to this day. Church driven by men with a religious agenda kept women from voting until ”The Nineteenth Amendment was signed” and finally ratified on August 18, 1920. Black people “could” have begun voting when ”The Fifteenth Amendment” was finally ratified on February 3, 1870 however black people did not start voting until 1963. Church driven GOP members who occupied many seats in the Senate, as well as Judges, and law enforcement kept segregation going until the Civil Rights Act ended it unofficially in 1964. But with Conservative leaders still not happy things did not change quickly. By 1968 all forms of segregation had been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court and by 1970, support for formal legal segregation had dissolved. Formal racial discrimination was illegal in school systems, businesses, the American military, other civil services and the government. Separate bathrooms, water fountains and schools all disappeared and the civil rights movement had the public support. Conservative Americans had effectively kept African Americans from actually having rights for nearly “One hundred and five Years!”.
Today we have elected the first “African-American with dark skin into office” and the KKK (yes the same since 1865) is now recruiting and plotting against America again. The same Conservative groups that kept slavery going, killed nearly “Three quarters of a Million People” in a Civil war, and Kept Women from having basic rights such as Voting, are “At it again”. How? They never went away. They are funded and perpetuated by Christianity here in America. They are all Conservative GOP people who are in the highest of positions of authority. They come from wealth, and they have alot of power. We are dividing right now at a alarming rate. Americans are tired of this Neo-Conservative movement that became very powerful during the Reagan Administration. And continued until this day. The hot topics today are Racial Equality, and Civil Rights for Homosexuals. The Gay people are trying to have the basic human right of “Marriage”.
Marriage is a social, religious, spiritual, or legal union of individuals. This union may also be called matrimony, while the ceremony that marks its beginning is usually called a wedding and the married status created is sometimes called wedlock.
Marriage is an institution in which interpersonal relationships (usually intimate and sexual) are acknowledged by the state or by religious authority. It is often viewed as a contract. Civil marriage is the legal concept of marriage as a governmental institution, in accordance with marriage laws of the jurisdiction. If recognized by the state, by the religion(s) to which the parties belong or by society in general, the act of marriage changes the personal and social statusof the individuals who enter into it. In its most true form it means “Two persons who Love each other and are committed to one another in Matrimony” This union would allow Gay people the right to include their partner on “Anything that legally married couples are entitled today”, including Health benefits, Death benefits. Conservative America is shouting “Morals” and saying that America will be punished by GOD if we allow it. Conservative is Religious, and such it is yet again the religious “right” inciting hate and fear in American politics. However now we have a President Elect who in a short time will be taking office, who happens to be African American. We have a Economic disaster happening right now, the worst since the “Great Depression”. The GOP or Conservative America is already pushing Hate for the new president. President Obama will have more on his shoulders than “Any President in History.” Threats against the new President are out of control. Churches are pushing hate at a alarming rate. And all of these circumstances are resembling more of what the conditions were like in 1861. People are divided. The majority of which are for Civil Rights, and Human Rights. Just like in 1861 the “Confederacy were so ignorant” it wasn’t a matter of knowing they were wrong about how they treated African-Americans they just didn’t want to stop. So nearly one million people died out of “Stubborn Ignorance”. Now we have them doing it again but this time “Its not only Race, its about Sexuality.” When we watch Television we hear some Conservative say how “its about Morals” We also have an Alarming number of Conservatives pushing hate because of the subject of “Abortion”. Yet again spouting the word “Morals”, and its against “Gods will”.
We must stop this Ignorant movement in its tracks if we are to continue growing, and essentially if we do not stop this soon there may not be a Country to fight for in the first place!! President Bush has sold us out to China for Trillions of dollars. American industry is nearly non-existent and we cannot suffer a “Civil War on top of a War on Terror”, and at the same time we are struggling to get the Economic conditions on track. Make no mistake the Conservative Movement led by Neo-conservative extremists believe this is their time to take control. And if you watch current events they are working towards that goal right now. WE Have to STOP them!! We have no choice in the Matter. We need to demonstrate on any Church who knowingly spreads Hate and fear. We need to investigate any Church of any faith who would fund American Terrorists like KKK neo-nazi’s etc. We have already taken on more than we intended to, now we have President Elect Obama and a Civil Rights movement with a crippled economy and a VERY ANGRY RELIGIOUS AND CONSERVATIVE group who will stop at nothing to stop it. Including letting this Country fail completely. So Think about the past, present and consider that “WE HAVE A CHOICE THIS TIME IN THE FUTURE”, we need to make WISE DECISIONS to move forward and experience the true change that we need so “DESPERATELY!!”
So ask yourself “what can we do in a non-violant way to stop the people who seek to destroy our momentum?” I my friends do not have all of the answers but I know this one fact to be true. “True freedom will never occur if we have a Integration of Religion and State” that one aspect of our Political system must end, Or this is “The begining of the End of our great Nation”. The Real Question is how far are we willing to go to Stop this, and pass laws to limit it from happening again in the future?

You have described the entire history of racism very accurately and it seems like gays are the new blacks in America.
It is the year 2008, and some people have not learned or evolved from those early days of the civil war.
This racism and prejudice must end now.
Thanks for the reminding some people – change is gonna come.
thanks for this wonderful post – while technology has progressed quickly, humans have not made much progress in our thinking and understanding. I don’t know what it is going to take for people to wake up and realize that we are all God’s very own – equal and precious in our own right – we should celebrate and revel in our differences! while we are all unique, we are all the same!
Anytime a “cause” becomes more important than life itself we have a problem.
